The Portico Library, Manchester- Committee Minutes 1844

Volunteering brings its own opportunities to access & explore the archives which you are working within. Transcribing the Committee Minutes during 1844 was a revelation to topics of the day, the most fascinating being whether gas lighting should be introduced instead of candles (you'd think with all the paper of the books, candles would be a good idea?) to the reference of the death of one of Manchester's greatest scientists, John Dalton.
